"Tip of the Month"

Scalping

Scalping happens when the grass is mowed shorter than 1/3 from the top of the blade. Turf grows rapidly in warm, humid weather. Recovery is slow as the days begin to shorten in length. An application of fertilizer, if it's been 4 weeks since the lst treatment, will help with repair. To prevent scalping, mow more often than every 7 days or raise your mower blade. It's okay to mow at 2 1/2 to 3 inches during this hot season. You can begin cutting lower in Sept./October in preparation for ryegrass overseeding.
